“After playing at The Stone Fox with rock acts such as ELEL and The Grey A, saxophonist Stefan Forbus got the idea to pitch a jazz brunch series to co-owner Elise Tyler, and thus the #SimplyStandards Jazz Brunch was born. Each Saturday, Forbus leads The Combo, a rotating cast of local players, through two hours of jazz standards as the club serves up omelets, chicken and waffles, breakfast tacos and more. For this week’s edition, The Combo will perform a set of Billie Holiday songs featuring vocalist Jennifer Whitcomb-Oliva, who’s no stranger to the material: Whitcomb-Oliva just played the legendary jazz singer in the Murfreesboro Center for the Arts’ production of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. Vocalist Darryl Johnson will also perform. JACK SILVERMAN”
